The Gist :: Being True

Following the split of post-punk minimalists Young Marble Giants, Stuart Moxham formed The Gist–a one-off project yielding a sole lp, 1982’s Embrace the Herd. Until 2017, that is, when Moxham released Holding Pattern, a collection comprised of 14 tracks dating back to the early 80s, during a period in which the artist found himself holed up in Nottingham, England armed with a TEAC four track reel to reel and a cassette Portastudio.

Jana Horn :: Optimism

Jana Horn’s masterful Optimism was self-released in minimal quantities in 2020, but the ever reliable No Quarter Records is giving it a well-deserved re-press in January. It’s a gem-like collection that hangs together wonderfully, thanks not only to the songwriter’s quietly luminous presence, but also the subtle and sensitive arrangements that her band provides.

Watch Skrillex Throw Down For His First Set In New York In 4 Years [FULL SET]

Few artists can trend on Twitter for simply announcing a single show, but that’s what Skrillex did last week before his grand return to New York City at Avant Gardner, his first set in the state in four years.

It’s been a long four years for Skrillex fans, bombarded with promises (or, rather, rumors) of an album, year after year after year. Not to mention plenty of releases that spanned various genres, many of them outside what was considered the artist’s “typical” style.

Nonetheless, it’s widely known that his live sets still go absolutely off, and that seems to be the consensus about last week’s show at Avant Gardner. BMR vlogs on YouTube was there and captured the full, incredible set, now available for you to rewatch if you were there, or watch for the first time if you weren’t able to make it.

Check it out below and head to 1001tracklists here to see the full tracklist.

Tim Story :: The Aquarium Drunkard Interview

Dieter Moebius’ restless creative spirit is at the heart of a new project, overseen by his widow Irene and Story, his friend and frequent collaborator. Titled Moebius Strips, the work is an audio installation that uses a wealth of loops, noises, and recordings from the late artist, as well as adaptations of his work created by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Eve Maret, Phew, Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, and others—all fed into a multi-channel speaker system.
